About Me

Therapy is just one tool among many that can support your healing journey. I don’t believe therapists have all the answers, but I promise to commit to holding space with integrity, care, and curiosity. How I work really depends on where you’re at and what you need in the present moment.

Sometimes, even in spaces that are meant to help, it can feel like you have to shrink or contort yourself just to be understood. I try to offer something different to that, a commitment to actively decolonise my practice and myself as much as possible while living within this system. A space where the parts of you can be met and feel safe to reconnect.

Growing up mixed asian and living between the UK and Hong Kong, I’ve known what it’s like to struggle with a sense of belonging. Over time, alongside working through C-PTSD, this has shaped how I understand connection, identity, and the possibility of feeling more at home within yourself.

I’m trained integratively, and I’ve also developed a somatic approach alongside my formal training. I noticed that when words alone weren’t enough, I needed something deeper - something that could support the body, the breath, and the emotions that don’t always have words.

Following my own journey through neurodivergent burnout and moving away from relationships that didn’t support who I was becoming, I dedicated time to somatic and yoga training, not just as a professional add-on, but as a lived pathway to reconnection. This experience now allows me to integrate somatic awareness, movement, and breath into therapy in ways that feel deeply attuned to each person’s needs: physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Integrating Mind, Body and Spirit

Holistic Approaches to Mental Wellness

At Unfolding with Jess, therapy embraces present awareness alongside societal and past relational influences. Integrating Person Centred, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Somatic Healing helps navigate emotional distress while fostering self-compassion and acceptance.

Decolonial Values

Traditional Therapy can sometimes feel hierarchical or focused solely on individual dynamics rather than systemic reality. My practice is built on equal partnership, transparency, and deep respect for cross cultural perspectives. I am committed to continuous self reflection, unlearning oppressive practices, and creating an inclusive space where your full, authentic self is welcomed and understood.

Why Choose Unfolding with Jess

I chose the name “Unfolding with Jess” after listening to a talk by Alan Watts, drawing from Daoist philosophy, where he reflects that flowers and trees don’t hurry to grow, they slowly unfold. Healing and self-discovery feel the same. We don’t force change; we create the conditions for growth, and allow ourselves to open in our own time.

Diverse Therapeutic Methods

Human experience is far too nuanced for a single blueprint. My practice integrates humanistic, psychodynamic, relational, and cognitive frameworks, meeting you wherever you are on the spectrum of mind and feeling. For some, psychoeducation provides a grounding map to make sense of overwhelming experiences. For others, cognitive understanding is already a core strength, and our work offers a gentle invitation to explore feelings and somatic processing alongside it. Whatever your natural way of operating, we adapt our approach to support your whole self.

Mind-Body Integration

True healing requires bringing the body into the conversation. What we often call 'symptom' is frequently the body's intelligent response to systemic pressure and lived experiences. By turning into physical sensations and nervous system cues alongside verbal dialogue, we move at a pace that respects your body's boundaries, offering gentle ways to process stored stress and reconnect with embodied calm.

Relational Depth

Above all else, I believe therapy is built on connection, not clinical distance. To me, being "relational" means showing up as a real human first :) While I hold the theoretical frameworks and professional responsibility, I don't hide behind a formal mask or pretend the power dynamic between therapist and client doesn't exist. We work transparently and collaboratively, building a grounded partnership where you are met with my warmth, honesty, and deep respect.

In Their Own Words

Voices from our shared therapy space, sharing what it has been like to explore and work together.

“No matter what I brought up, or how I brought it up, Jess was always willing to offer support and actively listened to the things I had to say, even if we did get off track a little sometimes. The six sessions I had, while I would have preferred more, were extremely vital to my progression as a human being.”

“My sessions with Jess helped me in so many ways, not just with the immediate impact of a family bereavement but also in dealing with events from my childhood and adolescence that I’d avoided for years. I feel a greater sense of resilience as a result. You need to be prepared, it can be emotional and a bit draining, but you can trust Jess to guide you through this and find your own strength as you go. I gained some much needed perspective, shed some needless guilt and feel calmer and more confident as a result.”

“I found Jess to be very very in tune with me and her guidance, professional advice and support was always extremely helpful. She helped me connect my hormonal cycle to some of my emotional experiences which I resonated with. Jess was really patient & understanding with me and I felt she really listened. Thank you so much! xxx”

“Jess delivered support at a pace that suited me, with extreme care and consideration to my needs for each individual session. There was a lot of methods I learned that are extremely valueable to me now.”

Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.

Bell Hooks, All About Love: New Visions

“I worked with Jess for two years, and throughout she always held my cultural background and spiritual beliefs whilst not being afraid to bring in the psychology to help me reflect. I’m very grateful for our time together.”
